AV Technician Apprentice
D & A MEDIA LTD
The Apprentice Field Engineer will learn to be able to build systems by reading through Statement of Work documents, viewing, understanding & adhering to schematic drawings. You will regularly communicate answers to complex questions & respond to detailed inquiries regarding technical issues & the resolutions.

What you will do in your working day
- Have a friendly, professional, communication style and approach to customers and colleagues, during daily interaction on job sites, in varying conditions and stages of a project
- Communicate daily technical and site-specific information to the project team in a comprehensive, thorough, and detailed manner
- Provide any and all post installation documentation, including red lined drawings, network information, MAC addresses, etc. back to Project Management
- Enjoy working effectively and efficiently with support from other members of the engineering team
- Showcase your organisation and communication skills by attending site surveys to check in with clients and site managers
- Deliver professional first and second fix installation in commercial properties going above and beyond customer expectations
- Installing, testing, fault finding and servicing audio visual systems and ensuring jobs are on track to be completed to the agreed timescales
- Navigate your way around a variety of Videoconferencing, meeting room, AV and Digital Signage projects both onsite and in the pre-production phase, working to deliver all projects to the highest standards
- Maintain complete and accurate project documentation and records
- Be responsible for successfully completing assignments on time and within budget and communicate effectively to the project team if budget and/or timeline is in jeopardy
- Conform to company technical standards and practices
The training you will be getting
- Level 5 Audio Visual Apprenticeship Standard
- Apprentices without level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the End-Point Assessment.
- All training will be completed at the employers site
You will become proficient at rack building, AV installation and configuration & the master of terminating Cat5 & 6, XLR, 232 cntrl, BNC, EDAC. You will also learn the following skills;
- Undertake a program of attaining several Health and Safety Accreditations
- System cabling and installation of mounts, screens, and other equipment to ceiling and walls
- Installation and setting up of video conferencing systems and video walls
- Testing audio, visual and communication quality on installation and fine-tuning for optimum result

Working alongside audio and control programmers and the tech services desk to deliver a full solution to our clients when conducting your installation
Performing hands on Client training upon completion of project. - Remain calm and focussed and enjoy the challenge of deep-diving to solve technical issues whilst maintaining a positive can-do helpful attitude at all times
- Perform the installation, replacement and/or configuration of integrated system components, networked Video Conferencing Codecs, networked AV Control Systems and networked Audio DSP Devices
- Proficient with MS Office, Computer Networks and a good working knowledge of Networking and diagnosing network faults
- Test and commission final installation of entire system prior to Client handover including full installation set-up, calibration and operation of DSP-based audiovisual components and networked AV control systems
- Daily communication to Project Management and Team, conveying project status including immediate communication of any issues which may impact successful, timely completion of project
- Provide post-installation support in transition to D&A Media tech services department
- Installation and setting up of video conferencing systems and video walls
- Test and commission final installation of entire system prior to Client handover including full installation set-up, calibration and operation of DSP-based audiovisual components and networked AV control systems
- Working alongside audio and control programmers and the tech services desk to deliver a full solution to our clients when conducting your installation

Things to consider
There may be lifting of screens for digital signage and meeting room installations. A clean driver’s licence is preferred.
